Day 02: Leaving Wamena

Leaving Wamena by 4 WD in the morning towards a place nearHabema Lake, our trek starting point (3.200 m ASL). The drive takes about 1,5 hours and it will sometimes cause a bit of altitude sickness as the changing of the elevation in within few hours only, make sure you get ready with some prevention before heading to the site – Arriving at starting point and trek to Wamena Limo, our Campsite 1 which averagely takes about 4 hours. The terrain is rather swampy along the savannah, there’s also a steep descent by a cliff all the way down to next savannah with a river in between. Our porters will get you across the river to keep the pace constantly – Arriving at the campsite in the afternoon. Overnight: Tent / Lunch and dinner provided. Campsite elevation: 3.110 m ASL / Temperature: 9 to 14 Celcius degrees by night

Day 03: Moving to next campsite 2 of Guardian Hills situated on 3.655 m ASL.

The trek averagely takes about 6 hours passing through some hills at the beginning then walk up on to the mountain ridge with spectacular scenery. The terrains today are quite different compare to previous day as we have more hills and swampy-wet savannah all the way. Just a notice that Papua has also unpredicted weather, the rain might occur on the entire trip right after 1 pm, so get ready with your rain gears somewhere handy – Arriving at the campsite 2 in the afternoon. Overnight: Tent / Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Campsite elevation: 3.655 m ASL / Temperature: 5 to 9 Celcius degrees by night

Day 04: Leaving the campsite at 9 am.

The trek today will gain the altitude with more savannah and wet swampy terrain, passing through Samalek cave for resting and warm up yourself by the open fire. From this point you already can see the peak from distance and yet the view becoming more interesting with waterfalls and cliffs along the way. The terrain is much harder to get to next campsite, there are steep hills to climb in muddy conditions. Reaching the campsite 3 in the afternoon, the whole today’s trek is approximately 6 to 7 hours. Overnight: Tent / Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Campsite elevation: 3.990 m ASL / Temperature: 2 to 8Celcius degrees by night

Day 05. Optional day at the campsite

Either we remain at the camp or moving by ourselves (without any porter companion due to lack of firewood) to next summit camp on higher altitude of 4.200 m ASL, which means you will only stay with your guide and your gears needed for the following climbing day. This will take about 1,5 hours to the next summit camp (Temperature is approximately 1 to 8 Celcius degrees at night). Another option you will be staying at campsite 3 to get yourself acclimatized and making sure the weather is being fine for the summit attack on the following day. Overnight: Tent / Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Campsite elevation: 3.990 m ASL / Temperature: 2 to 8 Celcius degrees by night

Day 06. The day of summit attack
- Leaving at 6 am from 4.200 m ASL summit camp (takes about 5 hours to reach the summit) and returning back to campsite 3 approximately at 4 pm
- Leaving at 5 am from campsite 3 (takes about 6,5 hours to reach the summit) and returning back to campsite 3 approximately at 6 pm
The first attempt of the summit begins with a semi-climb technique where you need a belay to get up to the mountain ridge. Harness and carabiners are required, or we attach you with knotted ropes for the safety. After passing through this hurdle you will be on the mountain ridge and walking on sharp-loosen rocks along the ridge. We descend on to another face of the ridge and scrambling up to third summit until finally moving on the other ridge to the true summit of 4.750 m ASL. The attempt takes such difficulty of scrambling technique, your body should be belayed in some points for your own safety. Reaching the summit by midday and staying here not more than 30 minutes as the weather usually changes rapidly. Just to make sure that the route back to campsite is not covered with fog and hail which temporarily happens around the summit ridge. The descent can be a little tricky with steep slopes and cliffs on a long day trek. Arriving at the campsite 3 late in the afternoon – The porters are ready for your hot drinks. Overnight: Tent / Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided. Campsite elevation: 3.990 m ASL / Temperature: 2 to 8 Celcius degrees by night

Day 07. Preparing to descend the mountains

Passing through Samalek cave, Campsite 2 of Guardian Hills and heading for Campsite 1 of Wamena Limo. The trek totally takes 6-7 hours altogether – Last night resting at campsite. Overnight: Tent / Lunch and dinner provided. Campsite elevation: 3.110 m ASL/ Temperature: 9 to 14 Celcius degrees by night.

Day 08. Leaving the campsite in the morning back to the main road where we started the trek on the first day
