DEPARTURE TRIP TO BALIEM VALLEY TREE HOUSE & ASMAT IN PAPUA

on tree houseDAY 01: JAKARTA or BALI ARRIVAL – CONNETING TO JAYAPURA
Arrival at International airport of Jakarta or Bali and connect by night flight to Jayapura the capital of Papua. The flight available from Jakarta to Jayapura i.e. 21.00, 22.00, 23.00 hours, and from Bali available only at 01.25 AM
 
DAY 02: JAYAPURA ARRIVAL (L.D)
The next morning you will be arrived at Sentani airport of Jayapura. Upon arrival meet and transfer to Sentani Indah hotel. The rest of the day is free program, lunch, dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
   
DAY 03: JAYAPURA–WAMENA –JIWIKA (pig feast and dance)–WAMENA (B.L.D)
Depart by flight to Wamena. On arrive at Wamena airport, transfer to your hotel, then proceed to visiting Dani villages and scenery from Napua hill, drive down to the town for having lunch. After lunch drive to northern part of Baliem valley to Anemoigi village to enjoy a local performance such as mock war and traditional earth oven cooking. You can be interacted with local Dani people and learn about their way of life. Late afternoon back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 04: WAMENA – YANIRUMA – HAMLET (KOROWAY TRIBE) (B.L.D)
Depart by charter flight to Yaniruma. The flight usually need about 45 minutes one way. Upon arrival at Yaniruma (Yaniruma is the starting point to see the tree house tribes), we will need to report to the local chief and organize our porters. Afterward we start by paddling canoes to cross Sekom and Dairam Hitam river. Then trek in 3 hours to a hamlet. On arrival usually the tribe come to greet and welcoming us. Overnight at shelters or tents.

DAY 05 – 08: EXPLORING THE TREE HOUSE TRIBES ACTIVITIES (B.L.D)
We will spend these 04 days trekking is some of the most pristine lowland rain forest in the world. Along the way we will try and stay with the various tribes those inhabit the region. The Korowai are more territorial than the neighboring Kombai. And the Korowai Batu is even more so. These tribes still practice cannibalism, and they can be aggressive. Don't worry they won't eat us. It is ritual cannibalism among the tribe, sometimes walk over the log or fallen tree and crossing the river with or without bridge. This is the tropical rain forest in the vast-green lowland of South Irian Jaya or Papua, there are many exotic things to be discovered and experienced but with a great deal with mosquito, swamp, heat and high humidity (85 - 100%). Our trek in the forest will support by our local porter who carry our bags or gears and will love to help you to do some difficult section of the trip when you need. We arrive in Dambol in the noon, and will meet the first Korowai family on their tree house. Korowai is a nomad people who always move from one place to another at least once every 3 years. They were not live in large group, that at every location of the tree house we only see 2-4 tree house built side by side. The Korowai also a great hunter who hunted pigs, Cus-Cus, birds most of their time in life. After we met the Korowai and family on their tree house, we may interact with them help by our guide and experience their life. Overnight at our tent or at shelter we build near the tree house soon after we arrive. During the time with Koroway we can follow their daily activities: hunting, setting trap of wild pigs, gathering Sago flour, fishing in traditional way.

DAY 09: HAMLET – BASMAN (B.L.D)
Today is the last trek in the tree house tribes, you walk in about 6 hours through the jungle and you will pass some rivers heading to Basman, lunch will serve on the way. Arrive in Basman it is the time to say goodbye to the porters, check-in to local accommodation. The rest of the day explore the village surrounding, late afternoon back to the accommodation for dinner and overnight stay. Basman is a village where the Koroway and the Citak Mitak are live together.

DAY 10: BASMAN- BINERBIS - SENGGO- JINAK (B.L.D)
 Leaving in the early morning by motorized canoes for about 7 hours downstream of Dairam Kabur river and we stop at Binerbis village to have lunch. After lunch proceed to Jinak via Senggo Sub District of Citak Mitak region. Along the riverside, you can see local people catch the fish with net and some of them with traditional way. Late afternoon you will arrive at Jinak village (Jinak is already Asmat people) for dinner and overnight stay at local house.  

asmatDAY 11: JINAK – FOS – AMBOREP (B.L.D)
After breakfast, continue by motorized canoes through the Siretsj river until Fos village then turn to the right side heading to Amborep village. On the way you may see birds flying over you when you are on the canoes also you will pass some people fishing on the river on their dug out canoes. You may have lunch in Amborep, afternoon visit long house of Asmat in Amborep and you have chance to talk to the former cannibal people to learn their way of life.    

DAY 12: AMBOREP – WARSE – AGATS (B.L.D)
After breakfast whole morning learn more about the Asmat culture. You may see and enjoy the Asmat ceremonies such as dancing, canoes racing, Mbis pole (Mbis is considered to have such supra-natural power to protect their family). Lunch served by your cook. Afternoon by motorized canoes heading to Agats within 2-3 hours. Arrive in Agats immediately check-in to Padaelo Inn. If time permitted you can see Museum of Asmat, souvenir shops, dinner and spend the night.

DAY 13: AGATS – EWER – TIMIKA (B.L.D)
Early in the morning by motorized canoe to Ewer airport for the flight back to Timika, upon arrival check in to Serayu hotel, after lunch walk to traditional market to see people selling their things, late in the afternoon back hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 14: TIMIKA – DEPARTURE TO JAKARTA or BALI (B)
After having breakfast at hotel, transfer to airport for your next destinations

Included in the trip:
All accommodation as per above program, English speaking guide, local porters and cook, all transportation during the trip of lands and rivers, donations, entrance fee, porter fee at airport, full board meals as mentioned in the program, ceremonies, traveling permit, domestic flights from Jakarta or Bali to Jayapura (Return) and local flight from Jayapura - Wamena and charter small missionaries flight from Wamena to Yaniruma and regular flight Asmat - Timika or by Boat.

Excluded in the trip:  
Travel insurance, excess baggage, International flight, airport tax as not mentioned in the program, entry visa to Indonesia, all expenses occurred due to the flight cancelled or other causes beyond our control. Beverages, laundry, personal expenses.

Domestic and local flight schedules:
- JAKARTA – JAYAPURA is daily flight with two transit airports
   Night flight Departure and arrival at 09.00PM-06.45AM, 09.50PM-07.10AM, 10.PM-
   07.55AM.
   Day flight Departure and Arrival: 05.00AM-02.00PM, 06.00AM-03.00PM
- BALI – JAYAPURA daily flight with one time transit available only and 01.25AM-
   07.55AM  
- TIMIKA – JAKARTA daily flight with one time transit available at 10.35AM –
   04.30PM transit in BALI
- JAYAPURA – WAMENA daily flight 4 times a day.
- TIMIKA – EWER(ASMAT) – TIMIKA available in our schedule but sometimes
   cancelled in this case we find another alternative to get to Timika.
- Charter missionary’s flight available from Monday until Saturday
 
Advices:
Travelers are required to bring 3 pieces of photograph size 4x6 and copy of passport (must be valid at least six month) and visa to arrange the traveling permit, these documents can be brought by you and submit them to us upon arrival in Sentani airport of Jayapura.
The weather in the highland is cold while in the low land is hot and humid it is recommended to bring with you such as mattresses, mosquito net, rain coat, hat, plastics and medicine against malaria.
